New in Toolbox 1.1
Find duplicate files on your Mac
Find Duplicates looks through the folders you choose and groups files with exactly the same contents, whatever they're called. It compares sizes, then the first and last 64 KB, then a SHA-256 of the whole file, so only true duplicates match. Scanning changes nothing, at least one copy of every file is always kept, and anything you remove goes to the Trash.

How to use Find Duplicates
Open Find Duplicates and drop folders onto the window, or use Quick Add for Downloads, Desktop, Documents, Pictures and more.
If you like, skip small files, include hidden files, look inside packages or follow aliases and symlinks.
Click Find Duplicates and review each group. Use Select to keep the newest, the oldest, the shortest path or the copy in a folder you pick.
Click Move to Trash and confirm. Toolbox shows how much space was freed, and you can put files back from the Trash.
Questions about Find Duplicates
How do I find duplicate files on a Mac?
Add the folders you want to check to Find Duplicates and click Find Duplicates. Toolbox lists every group of identical files with the space you'd free by keeping one copy, and you choose which copies go.
Does it find duplicates in my Photos library?
No. Find Duplicates never opens the Photos library or other app libraries, because their files are managed by those apps. It finds duplicate photos in ordinary folders, such as Downloads, Desktop or a folder of exports.
Could it remove the only copy of a file?
No. At least one copy in every group is always kept, files that changed since the scan are skipped, and everything you remove goes to the Trash instead of being deleted.
Is it free, and does it upload my files?
Toolbox is a paid app, and one purchase includes every tool, with no subscription or account. Find Duplicates reads your files on your Mac and never uploads them.
