Free up storage on your Mac
Storage Explorer scans your home folder, startup disk or any folder and shows what takes up space, down to the largest files. Its Space Hogs view checks the usual culprits behind a full disk, such as Xcode caches, iOS simulators, iPhone backups, app caches and old Downloads. Anything you remove goes to the Trash, so nothing is deleted permanently until you empty it.

How to use Storage Explorer
Open Storage Explorer and choose Explore or Space Hogs.
Pick what to scan: Home Folder, Startup Disk or Other Folder, then start the scan.
Drill into the largest folders, or switch the view to the largest files.
Select what you no longer need and click Move to Trash, then empty the Trash when you're sure.
Questions about Storage Explorer
What is System Data on Mac and how do I clear it?
System Data is space macOS can't put in another category, often caches, developer files, iPhone backups and Time Machine local snapshots. Space Hogs finds the common ones so you can review and move them to the Trash. Caches rebuild as apps need them.
Is it safe to delete Xcode DerivedData and simulators?
Yes. DerivedData is rebuilt the next time you build a project, and unused simulators can be downloaded again from Xcode. Keep Archives you may need to symbolicate crash reports for released apps.
Can I delete old iPhone backups on my Mac?
Yes, if you have a newer backup or use iCloud Backup. Space Hogs lists each backup with the device name and last backup date so you can pick the right one.
Why does Storage Explorer need Full Disk Access?
macOS protects some folders, such as Mail and parts of Library. Without Full Disk Access those folders can't be measured, so totals may look smaller than what macOS reports.
